Chateau de la Tour

Chateau de la Tour holds the distinction of being the largest monopole owner within Clos de Vougeot, controlling 5.48 of the grand cru's 50.6 hectares — a larger single holding than any other proprietor in this historic walled vineyard. The estate has been in the Labet family since 1900, and current director François Labet has steadily elevated quality since the 1990s. The Vieilles Vignes bottling, sourced from the oldest vines in the estate's Clos de Vougeot holding (some planted in the 1920s), is the flagship and commands the highest auction prices. The standard Clos de Vougeot and the prestige Hommage à Jean Morin complete the offering. Across 482 auction lots, the estate averages $315 per bottle, with exceptional prices reaching $8,750 for large-format older vintages. The 2015 Vieilles Vignes earned 97 points from Vinous, establishing it as one of the finest expressions of the grand cru from any producer. François Labet has also been instrumental in pushing for a classification within Clos de Vougeot to distinguish better-sited parcels from the more variable lower sections.

Chateau de la Tour is the largest single landowner in Clos de Vougeot grand cru, with 5.48 hectares — over 10% of the entire appellation's 50.6 hectares.
The Vieilles Vignes bottling is sourced from vines planted as early as the 1920s and has earned scores of 96–97 from Vinous and Wine Advocate in benchmark vintages including 2015 and 2019.
482 auction lots average $315 per bottle with a ceiling of $8,750, driven by large formats and the scarcity of older Vieilles Vignes vintages from the early 2000s.
François Labet has been a leading advocate for a formal classification within Clos de Vougeot that would distinguish higher-elevation parcels (historically the most prized) from lower, flatter ground.

In the Glass

Chateau de la Tour Clos de Vougeot is Burgundy grand cru of structure and depth: dark cherry, plum, violet, earth, and truffle with firm tannins and excellent acidity from the elevated parcel position. The Vieilles Vignes adds concentration and mineral complexity from old vine depth. The style is classic Vougeot — less floral than Chambolle, less iron-edged than Gevrey, with a plush mid-palate and long, savory finish. Wines need 10–15 years to reach peak.
