Delas

Delas Frères is a négociant and estate producer in the northern Rhône Valley, founded in 1835 in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols near Tournon, and acquired by Champagne Deutz (the Roederer group) in 1977. The house produces wine across the northern Rhône from Côte-Rôtie south to Saint-Joseph, as well as southern Rhône appellations, but its auction reputation rests on its Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie single-vineyard crus. Les Bessards, the estate's premier Hermitage from the granitic Les Bessards lieu-dit, leads the 317-lot auction record and averages $174 per bottle — among the top tier of Hermitage secondary-market pricing. La Landonne from Côte-Rôtie, sourced from one of the appellation's most celebrated and tannic lieux-dits, also appears in the auction record. The Sainte-Épine rouge from Saint-Joseph and the Haute Pierre from Crozes-Hermitage complete the top-tier range. At $174 average, Delas Hermitage represents a value alternative to Chapoutier, Jaboulet, and Chave in the Hermitage secondary market, and the Roederer group's ownership has brought investment and cellar consistency since the late 1990s.

Delas Les Bessards Hermitage, sourced from the granitic Les Bessards lieu-dit — the most iron-rich and powerful sector of the Hermitage hill — leads the estate's 317-lot auction record, averaging $174 per bottle.
The La Landonne Côte-Rôtie, from one of the appellation's three defining lieux-dits alongside La Mouline and La Turque, is Delas's second flagship and commands premiums in specialist Rhône auctions.
Delas was founded in 1835, making it one of the northern Rhône's oldest négociant houses; its 1977 acquisition by the Deutz/Roederer group brought modernisation that significantly elevated quality from the mid-1990s onward.
The Sainte-Épine rouge from Saint-Joseph and Tour d'Albon from Crozes-Hermitage represent the accessible tiers of the Delas range, averaging well below the Hermitage flagship but offering entry points to the house's northern Rhône style.

In the Glass

Delas northern Rhône reds are Syrah-dominated expressions of considerable power and elegance. Les Bessards Hermitage is the most structured: black olive, smoked meat, blackberry, and iron-mineral depth over dense tannins that take 10–15 years to integrate. La Landonne from Côte-Rôtie shows more violet and spice alongside the iron core. The Saint-Joseph Sainte-Épine is the most approachable: fresh dark fruit and pepper with lighter tannins ready within 5–8 years.
