Domaine Bruno Clair

Domaine Bruno Clair is a Marsannay-based estate that ranks among Burgundy's most reliable producers across a wide range of appellations from Marsannay through the Côte de Nuits grands crus. Bruno Clair, nephew of the legendary Louis Jadot winemaker Jacques Lardière, established the domaine in 1979 after the division of the Clair-Daü estate. The domaine's most prized holding is Bonnes Mares grand cru, from a parcel on the Morey-Saint-Denis side of the vineyard that produces dense, structured wine. The Gevrey-Chambertin premiers crus — Les Cazetiers, Clos du Fontenys, and Clos Saint-Jacques — are among the commune's most sought-after. Clair also produces a benchmark Marsannay rosé. Across 465 auction lots, the domaine averages $215 per bottle with prices reaching $2,868. The 2010, 2015, and 2019 vintages have been estate highlights, with Bonnes Mares earning 96–97 from Burghound and Wine Advocate. Clair's philosophy tends toward a traditional style: long macerations, large and small barrels mixed, with moderate new oak.

Bruno Clair founded the domaine in 1979 following the division of the historic Clair-Daü estate, securing exceptional parcels in Bonnes Mares and multiple Gevrey-Chambertin premiers crus.
The Bonnes Mares holding occupies a parcel on the Morey-Saint-Denis side of the grand cru — historically considered the more muscular and age-worthy section — and has earned scores of 96–97 from Burghound.
Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques, one of Burgundy's most revered premier cru sites, is produced in approximately 300–400 cases annually and trades at $300–500 per bottle in top vintages.
465 auction lots average $215 per bottle with a ceiling of $2,868, driven by Bonnes Mares and large-format older vintages of the Gevrey grands vins.

In the Glass

Bruno Clair Pinot Noirs are built on structure and precision: dark cherry, plum, iron, mineral earth, and cedar with firm tannins and excellent acidity. The Bonnes Mares is the most muscular — dense, brooding, and tannic in youth. Gevrey premiers crus show more red fruit, floral lift, and spice. The Marsannay rosé is dry, mineral, and pale salmon — a benchmark for the village. All reds reward 10–20 years of cellaring.
