Domaine Denis Bachelet

Domaine Denis Bachelet is one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most revered small estates, known for the extraordinary quality of its Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes. Denis Bachelet farmed just 3.5 hectares, with the prized Charmes-Chambertin parcel accounting for approximately 0.43 hectares of vines averaging over 80 years old. Production is minuscule — only 1,200–1,500 bottles of Charmes-Chambertin annually — making it one of the most sought-after and difficult-to-source Grand Crus from Gevrey. Bachelet's winemaking is traditional: whole-cluster inclusion, long macerations, and aging in a high proportion of new oak without excessive extraction. At auction, the estate averages $223 per bottle across 127 lots. The Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is the star, reaching $837 per bottle for top vintages. Surprisingly, the portfolio also includes a Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, a white Burgundy anomaly for an otherwise red Gevrey estate. Village Gevrey-Chambertin and Côte de Nuits-Villages complete the range at more modest price points.
