About Charmes-Chambertin

Charmes-Chambertin, created in 1937, is the largest grand cru in Gevrey-Chambertin, with about 29 hectares in production in 2008. It lies on the lower slope east of Chambertin, across the Route des Grands Crus, between Griotte-Chambertin and Mazoyères-Chambertin. Wine from Mazoyères may also be sold as Charmes. The wines are very fragrant when young, with soft, ripe Pinot Noir fruit, and typically peak at 10 to 20 years. The section beside the N74 road is often rated nearer to premier cru level.
