About Bonnes Mares

Bonnes Mares is a red grand cru in the Côte de Nuits, created in 1936. Most of it is in Chambolle-Musigny, with a smaller part in Morey-Saint-Denis next to Clos de Tart. The name has been used since the Middle Ages and its origin is uncertain. One theory links it to the Cistercian nuns of Notre-Dame de Tart, the 'good mothers'. About 16 hectares of Pinot Noir were in production in 2008. The wine is generally full-bodied and tannic. Soil differences along the vineyard can push it towards the sturdier Morey style or the lighter, more elegant Chambolle style.
