About Chambertin-Clos de Beze
Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is a red grand cru in Gevrey-Chambertin, on the Côte de Nuits. It lies just north of Chambertin, above the Route des Grands Crus. Monks of the Abbey of Bèze, who owned the land, first cleared and planted it in the 7th century. It is the only neighbouring grand cru allowed to sell its wine as plain Chambertin, though growers seldom do, given its own reputation. It is split among many owners, and its quality is often judged more consistent than Chambertin's. The best wines are powerful and perfumed, and they age for a long time. About 15 hectares of Pinot Noir were in production in 2008.
