About Montrachet
Montrachet is a white grand cru straddling Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet in the southern Côte de Beaune. Its wine is widely ranked at the very top of the world's dry whites. It is surrounded by four other 'Montrachet' grands crus and is generally rated above them. The vineyard dates from the Middle Ages, and wine from 'Mont Rachaz' was recorded as a gift in 1252. It is split almost equally between the two villages, whose Chardonnay is labelled Montrachet on the Puligny side and Le Montrachet on the Chassagne side. About eight hectares were in production in 2008. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti owns 0.67 hectares.
