About Batard-Montrachet

Bâtard-Montrachet is a white grand cru made only from Chardonnay. It straddles the communes of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. It lies just below Montrachet, across the Route des Grands Crus, and borders Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. Legend says a lord of Puligny split his estate among his knight son, his daughters and his illegitimate son, giving the names Chevalier, Pucelles and Bâtard. The appellation dates from 1937 and had about 11 hectares in production in 2008.
