About Pommard
Pommard is a red-only village appellation of the Côte de Beaune, created in 1937 for Pinot Noir. It has no grand crus but several highly regarded premiers crus. About 322 hectares were in production at village and premier cru level in 2008, making just over 1.7 million bottles. Pommard is typically among the most powerful and tannic wines of the Côte de Beaune, in clear contrast to the lighter, more elegant wines of neighbouring Volnay.
