About Nuits-Saint-Georges
Nuits-Saint-Georges is a village appellation covering Nuits-Saint-Georges and Premeaux-Prissey, at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits. It is sometimes shortened to Nuits, a name that comes from the Latin for walnuts, not from 'night'. About 97 per cent of the wine is red Pinot Noir, with a little white. There are no grand crus. About 306 hectares were in production at village and premier cru level in 2008, making just over 1.6 million bottles.
