About Volnay
Volnay is a red-only Côte de Beaune appellation, created in 1937 for Pinot Noir from Volnay and some vineyards in Meursault. It has no grands crus but several highly regarded premiers crus. About 207 hectares were in production at village and premier cru level in 2008, making just over a million bottles. Volnay is typically light, aromatic and elegant rather than powerful, with much less tannin than neighbouring Pommard.
