About Gevrey-Chambertin
Gevrey-Chambertin is a red-only village appellation for Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin and Brochon on the Côte de Nuits. With about 410 hectares at village and premier cru level in 2008, it is the largest village appellation of the Côte de Nuits. Much of that is village-level land stretching east of the N74 road. The commune also has nine grands crus, more than any other village: Chambertin, Clos de Bèze and seven others with hyphenated Chambertin names. Gevrey wines are deeply coloured and potent for Burgundy, with aromas of blackcurrant, cherry, musk and liquorice. They suit rich dishes such as coq au vin and strong cheeses like Époisses.
