Domaine Faiveley

Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's most significant estates, founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges and now spanning over 120 hectares across the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Côte Chalonnaise — making it one of the largest quality-focused domaines in the region. The estate is distinguished by its Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley monopole, acquired in 1860 by Joseph Faiveley, and its position since the 1930s as the largest owner of Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru with approximately 1.2 hectares. Erwan Faiveley, the seventh generation, took over as president in 2005, undertaking a significant quality revolution — reducing yields, transitioning to organic farming across key parcels, and upgrading winemaking practices. His sister Eve joined in 2014. The domaine holds 12 Grand Crus and 22 Premier Crus, including important holdings in Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges and Mazis-Chambertin. At auction, Faiveley Chambertin-Clos de Bèze and Corton Clos des Cortons represent excellent value for Grand Cru Burgundy.

Domaine Faiveley has been the largest owner of Chambertin-Clos de Bèze since the 1930s, farming approximately 1.2 hectares of this 37-hectare Grand Cru — a position maintained through seven generations and multiple Burgundy market cycles.
The Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley is a Grand Cru monopole acquired in 1860 by Joseph Faiveley; at 1.4 hectares of red Corton it is one of very few Grand Cru monopoles held by a Burgundy négociant-domaine family.
Erwan Faiveley (7th generation, president since 2005) has led a quality revolution across the 120-hectare estate, converting key parcels to organic farming and reducing yields significantly; the improvements have been reflected in a string of high-profile critical reassessments since 2010.
The domaine spans Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Côte Chalonnaise — 12 Grand Crus and 22 Premier Crus — giving it one of the most comprehensive portfolios of any Burgundy producer, from Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru to Mercurey.

In the Glass

Faiveley's wines have evolved significantly under Erwan's stewardship from the once-rustic, tannic house style to a more precise, terroir-expressive approach. Chambertin-Clos de Bèze shows the vineyard's characteristic dark fruit, iron, and earth with firm but polished tannins. Corton Clos des Cortons delivers the site's distinctive warm, spicy depth. Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges is an excellent value Premier Cru with earthy, tobacco-tinged complexity.
