Domaine Zind Humbrecht

Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is Alsace's most celebrated estate and a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in France, producing single-vineyard Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muscat of extraordinary depth and purity. The Humbrecht family has farmed in Alsace since 1620, and the modern estate was created in 1959 when Geneviève Zind married Leonard Humbrecht. Their son Olivier — one of France's first Master of Wine — converted the estate to biodynamics in the early 1990s and became one of the world's most influential advocates for terroir-driven winemaking. The 40-hectare estate includes parcels in four Alsace Grand Crus — Rangen de Thann, Hengst, Brand, and Goldert — as well as the Clos Windsbuhl and Clos Saint Urbain monopoles. The wines are famously concentrated and low in alcohol, thanks to extremely late harvesting and biodynamic practices that maximise phenolic ripeness. SGN and Vendanges Tardives bottlings can age for decades. At auction, Zind-Humbrecht is the most actively traded Alsace estate, with the Grand Cru single-vineyard wines — particularly Rangen de Thann Clos Saint Urbain — commanding premium prices that reflect their standing as some of France's greatest white wines.
