Fontodi

Fontodi is one of Chianti Classico's most respected and quality-driven estates, based in Panzano in Chianti and farmed biodynamically since 2010. The Manetti family has owned the estate since 1968 and has, under Giovanni Manetti's leadership, consistently produced some of the appellation's finest wines. The flagship Flaccianello della Pieve — a 100% Sangiovese wine named for the estate's historic farmstead — was a pioneer of the Super Tuscan concept, demonstrating in the 1980s that pure Sangiovese aged in barriques could produce wines of world-class quality without international varieties. The Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo, from the estate's finest parcel, is the current prestige offering within the Chianti Classico DOCG. The regular Chianti Classico and Riserva are exceptional values. At auction, Flaccianello is the most actively traded wine from the estate, with the 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2015 vintages particularly prized for demonstrating Sangiovese at its most complex and age-worthy. Fontodi's biodynamic credentials add further cachet for quality-conscious collectors.
