About Chateau Canon
Château Canon is a Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé B, just south-west of the old town. It began in the early 18th century as Clos St-Martin, a walled vineyard planted by Jean Biès near the church of St-Martin. Jacques Kanon bought it in 1760, enlarged it and gave it the likely source of its name. He sold it in 1770 to the Libourne merchant Raymond Fontémoing. The Fournier family owned it from 1919 until vine disease in the early 1990s led to its sale to the Wertheimer family in 1996. Its 21.5 hectares are 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc.
