About Chateau Margaux

Château Margaux, in the Médoc commune that shares its name, was ranked a First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. Vines replaced grain under the Lestonnac family in the 16th century. After the Revolution the estate was confiscated; Bertrand Douat, Marquis de la Colonilla, bought it in 1802 and had the château rebuilt in First Empire style. The Ginestet family gained control between 1925 and 1949 but sold after the 1973 Bordeaux slump. André Mentzelopoulos bought it in 1976 and revived it with Émile Peynaud's advice; his daughter Corinne became sole shareholder in 2003. Its range includes Pavillon Rouge and the Sauvignon Blanc-based Pavillon Blanc.
