About Margaux
Margaux is the southernmost communal appellation of the Haut-Médoc, taking in the village of Margaux along with Cantenac, Arsac, Soussans and Labarde on the left bank of the Gironde. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blends, partnered by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Its soils are the thinnest and most gravelly in the Médoc, which keeps the vines well drained, and grapes ripen up to ten days ahead of the rest of the peninsula. The wines are prized for perfume and blackcurrant fruit, with the southern villages giving firmer, plummier wines. It counts 21 classed growths, more than any other Bordeaux commune, led by Château Margaux and including Palmer and Rauzan-Ségla.
