About Pauillac
Pauillac is a commune and appellation in the Haut-Médoc, on the Gironde's Left Bank between Saint-Julien to the south and Saint-Estèphe to the north. It holds three of Bordeaux's five First Growths: Latour, Lafite Rothschild and Mouton Rothschild. The Second Growths Pichon-Longueville and Pichon-Lalande are here too, along with Fifth Growths such as Pontet-Canet, Lynch-Bages and Grand-Puy-Lacoste. Its roughly 1,200 hectares sit on gravel slightly higher than the land around it, sheltered from Atlantic winds by forest. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates, always blended, and critics have described the style as austere.
