About Cos d'Estournel
Cos d'Estournel stands on a gravel hill in Saint-Estèphe facing Lafite across the Pauillac boundary; 'cos' means a hill of pebbles in Gascon. Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel assembled the vineyard from the late 18th century, gave it his name in 1810 and added its India-inspired pagoda architecture. It was ranked a Second Growth in 1855. English banker Charles Cecil Martyns bought it in 1852, followed by the Errazu family, the Hosteins and, through marriage, Louis-Victor Charmolue of Montrose. Fernand Ginestet acquired it in 1917, and it later formed part of Domaines Prats under Bruno Prats before passing to Michel Reybier. Les Pagodes de Cos has been made since 1994.
