About Domaine Armand Rousseau
Armand Rousseau, born in 1884 into a Gevrey-Chambertin family of merchants, coopers and growers, inherited vineyard plots and gained more vines and cellars through his 1909 marriage. He bought into Charmes-Chambertin, Clos de la Roche and Chambertin in the 1910s and 1920s and, advised by Raymond Baudoin of La Revue du vin de France, became one of the first Burgundy growers to bottle and sell his own wine in the 1930s, also exporting early to the United States. Later purchases added Mazis, Mazoyères and Clos Saint-Jacques. His son Charles took over in 1959 and added Clos de Bèze and the whole Clos des Ruchottes.
