About Joseph Roty

The Roty family has been based in Gevrey-Chambertin since 1710, but the core of the present domaine dates from the late 1960s, when Joseph Roty began building it with vines inherited from his grandfather. Joseph died in 2008. His sons Philippe and Pierre-Jean, counted as the eleventh generation, carried on with very little change to the approach. Philippe, who had worked alongside his father since around 1990, also runs a separate label under his own name. The domaine is known for very old vines, including a Charmes-Chambertin plot planted largely in 1881.
