About Kistler
Kistler Vineyards in Sonoma County was founded in 1978. Steve Kistler oversaw the winemaking and vineyards until 2017, while Mark Bixler, a Berkeley chemistry PhD, ran the business and sales side and helped in the lab. Bill Price, owner of the Durell Vineyard, bought Steve Kistler's majority holding in 2008, and Jason Kesner, formerly vineyard manager at Hudson Vineyards in Carneros, became assistant winemaker; by the end of 2017 he was running production, farming and the business. The winery is best known for Burgundy-style Chardonnays and also makes Pinot Noir from sites such as Occidental Station. A tasting room opened at the Trenton Roadhouse vineyard in 2014.
