About Kosta Browne

Kosta Browne was founded in 1997 by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and is based in Sebastopol in Sonoma County, concentrating on Pinot Noir with some Chardonnay. Its 2009 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir was Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year in 2011. It made wine only from bought-in fruit until 2013, when it bought a 20-acre vineyard, adding 60 acres in Anderson Valley in 2016. Known from the 2002 and 2003 vintages for ripe, heavily extracted wines, it moved to a lighter style from 2015. Private equity bought it twice: J.W. Childs Associates in 2015, then Duckhorn Wine Company, owned by TSG Consumer Partners, in 2018.
