About Occidental (Kistler)
Occidental is a Pinot Noir estate on the coastal ridges and marine terraces around Bodega in western Sonoma. In the early 1990s Catherine Kistler's father became convinced the area could yield distinctive Pinot Noir, and he planted the Occidental Vineyard in 1995. In 2011 he launched a small Pinot Noir brand and built a winery just east of Bodega overlooking the Pacific. Catherine joined full time in 2017 and gradually took over the winemaking; she and her sister Elizabeth now own the business outright. Its 85 acres are bottled as single-vineyard wines such as Bodega Headlands Cuvée Elizabeth, Running Fence Cuvée Catherine and SWK.
