Chateau Doisy-Daëne is a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru Classé) Barsac estate in the Sauternes appellation, covering approximately 17 hectares planted predominantly to Sémillon with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Owned by the Dubourdieu family since 1924 — Denis Dubourdieu, who died in 2016, was one of Bordeaux's most influential winemaking academics and a pioneer of modern Sauvignon Blanc and botrytised wine techniques — the estate produces a classic Barsac with perhaps more freshness and vivacity than neighbouring Sauternes properties. The botrytised Barsac sweet wine averages $140 per bottle at auction across 527 lots, with the exceptional L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne — a late-harvest, heavily concentrated sweet wine made only in the best vintages — commanding $400–600+ per bottle. L'Extravagant is produced from multiple tries of ultra-ripe botrytised Sémillon grapes and has earned multiple near-perfect scores. A dry white Sec is also produced from the property. The 1990, 2001, 2005, 2007, and 2009 vintages are the estate's strongest auction performers, aligning with the peak Sauternes vintages of the modern era. Parker awarded 99 points to the 2001 L'Extravagant. The estate's academic credentials under Denis Dubourdieu — who consulted for dozens of Bordeaux châteaux — add a layer of intellectual prestige that supports the secondary market.
