Fritz Haag

Fritz Haag is one of Mosel's most respected estate wineries, a family domain in Brauneberg whose wines from the Brauneberger Juffer and Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr vineyards represent some of the finest expressions of Riesling on the river. The estate has been in the Haag family for generations; Wilhelm Haag built the modern reputation over more than 40 years at the helm, and his son Oliver has taken the estate to new heights since assuming responsibility. The Juffer-Sonnenuhr is considered one of the Mosel's great Riesling sites, producing wines of extraordinary intensity and structure from the steep blue slate slopes. The estate works across the full traditional Mosel range from Kabinett through Auslese and Eiswein, with each level showing the transparency of the site and vintage. A notable 1999 reform established Fritz Haag as a distinct estate from the Thomas Haag operation at Schloss Lieser. At auction, Fritz Haag is among the most sought-after Mosel estates, with the Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Auslese Goldkapsel in particular commanding prices that reflect the extraordinary quality and relative rarity of these benchmark wines.
