Radio-Coteau

Radio-Coteau is a small Sonoma producer founded in 2002 by Eric Sussman, focusing on low-intervention, single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Syrah from cool coastal California sites. Sussman studied under Ted Lemon of Littorai and carries forward a similar philosophy: farming and vinification aimed at expressing site rather than winemaker intervention. Vineyards are farmed organically or biodynamically, yields are low, and wines are made with minimal additions, often featuring whole-cluster inclusion and extended maceration. The flagship La Neblina Pinot Noir, sourced from a Sonoma Coast vineyard shrouded in morning fog, and Las Colinas Syrah, from a steep hillside vineyard in the Sonoma Coast AVA, represent the portfolio's heights. The Savoy Vineyard Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley is another key bottling. Across 485 lots, Radio-Coteau averages $53 per bottle with a ceiling of $305 — modest prices reflecting the small, devoted cult following rather than broad market recognition. Scores typically reach 92–95 from Wine Advocate and Vinous, with the best Syrah bottlings occasionally exceeding that range.

Eric Sussman apprenticed under Ted Lemon of Littorai before founding Radio-Coteau in 2002; the estate's approach to farming and low-intervention winemaking reflects Lemon's influence directly.
La Neblina Pinot Noir, sourced from a Sonoma Coast fog-belt vineyard at 1,400 feet elevation, typifies the estate's focus on high-altitude, cool-climate sites that extend the growing season.
Las Colinas Syrah from a steep Sonoma Coast hillside vineyard has earned scores of 94–95 from Wine Advocate, establishing Radio-Coteau as one of California's finest Syrah producers.
485 auction lots average $53 per bottle — exceptionally affordable for a critically regarded single-vineyard Sonoma Coast producer operating with organically farmed, low-yield viticulture.

In the Glass

Radio-Coteau Pinot Noirs are cool-climate, coastal California in character: red cherry, cranberry, dried rose, forest floor, and wet stone with bright acidity and fine, silky tannins. La Neblina shows greater delicacy and floral lift; Savoy offers more dark fruit and spice from Anderson Valley. The Syrahs are peppery, savory, and structured — closer to northern Rhône in spirit than to warmer California expressions, with 14% or less alcohol.
