Taylor's

Taylor Fladgate is one of the oldest and most revered Port houses, founded in 1692 and still privately owned by the Fladgate Partnership (the Yeatman and Bergqvist families). The house is celebrated above all others for the sheer longevity and complexity of its Vintage Ports, which are regarded by many collectors as the benchmark against which all others are measured. Taylor's has declassified more vintages than any other major house — a policy of releasing Vintage Port only in exceptional years — which ensures that each declaration is a genuine statement of quality. The flagship Quinta de Vargellas estate in the Douro Superior provides the heart of the vintage blend and is also bottled as a single-quinta wine in non-declaration years. Taylor's is also renowned for producing the world's finest Tawny Ports: the 20, 30, and 40-Year-Old expressions are widely acknowledged as the appellation's reference points. Historic declared vintages include 1945, 1948, 1963, 1966, 1977, 1983, 1992, 1994, 2000, 2003, 2007, and 2011. At auction, Taylor's Vintage Port commands the highest prices in the category, with the 1963 and 1945 considered among the greatest dessert wines ever made.
