Vieux Telegraphe

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's benchmark estates, owned and operated by the Brunier family since 1898. The estate's 70-hectare La Crau vineyard sits on the plateau east of the village, covered by the galets roulés — large rounded stones — that characterise the appellation's most celebrated terroir. The wines are primarily Grenache-dominant with Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault in the blend, produced in both rouge and blanc styles. La Crau Rouge, the flagship, is fermented in concrete and aged in large foudres; it is one of the most age-worthy Châteauneufs, capable of evolving over 20–30 years. Télégramme Rouge is the second label, offering earlier access to the house style. Across 487 auction lots, the estate averages $127 per bottle, with prices reaching $1,554 for older vintages and magnums. Standout vintages include 2007, 2010, 2015, and 2019, each earning scores of 94–98 from Wine Advocate. The Bruniers also own Domaine La Roquète and manage projects in Gigondas. Vieux Télégraphe's combination of historical pedigree, consistent quality, and reasonable pricing relative to Burgundy makes it one of the Rhône's most reliable long-term investments.

The Brunier family has owned Vieux Télégraphe since 1898, and the La Crau vineyard — covered in galets roulés that absorb and radiate heat — is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's most distinctive terroirs.
La Crau Rouge from the 2007 vintage earned 98 points from Wine Advocate; the 2010 and 2019 editions also received 97–98 points, establishing the wine as consistently among the appellation's finest.
487 auction lots average $127 per bottle, with a ceiling of $1,554 — exceptional value relative to Burgundy and Bordeaux at comparable quality levels.
The estate ferments in concrete tanks and ages exclusively in large foudres, avoiding new oak entirely; the result is wines of remarkable transparency to terroir and capacity for decades of ageing.

In the Glass

Vieux Télégraphe La Crau Rouge is archetypically Châteauneuf-du-Pape: ripe red and black cherry, garrigue, dried herbs (thyme, lavender), leather, and white pepper with earthy galets minerality. Grenache provides the warm, generous fruit core; Mourvèdre adds animal and iron complexity; Syrah contributes dark spice. The blanc offers white peach, anise, and mineral freshness. All wines are full-bodied with firm but polished tannins on the reds.
