About Oakville
Oakville is a Napa Valley sub-AVA in the south-central part of the valley, around the hamlet of Oakville. It was established in July 1993, on the same day as neighbouring Rutherford. Its best-known site is To Kalon, first planted by H.W. Crabb in 1868 and now shared by the Robert Mondavi Winery, Andy Beckstoffer and other owners. Heitz Cellars' Martha's Vineyard is also here. The Yountville Hills limit the fog from San Pablo Bay. Bordeaux varieties do best, giving richly textured wines with firm tannins and minty, herbal notes.
