About Alban Vineyards

Alban Vineyards is in Edna Valley, near Arroyo Grande in southern San Luis Obispo County. It works only with Rhône grape varieties. John Alban studied oenology at UC Davis and apprenticed in France, including at Château Rayas. He planted vines for others from 1985 and bought his own estate in 1989. He became a leading figure among the 'Rhone Rangers' and helped revive Viognier in California when the variety had almost vanished in France. About 60 acres are planted, mainly Syrah, Viognier and Roussanne. The wines include the Reva, Lorraine and Seymour's Syrahs and Pandora, a Grenache–Syrah blend.
