About Central Coast
The Central Coast is a large multi-county AVA running down the Pacific coast from the San Francisco Bay Area through Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. It was established in 1985 on a petition from Taylor California Cellars and has since been expanded twice. About 100,000 acres are planted, more than half of them Chardonnay. Inside it lie dozens of smaller AVAs that share a Pacific-influenced maritime climate. Among them are the Santa Cruz Mountains, Monterey, Paso Robles, Edna Valley, Santa Maria Valley and Sta. Rita Hills.
