About Yountville
Yountville is a Napa Valley sub-AVA around the town of Yountville, established in March 1999 after a petition by Richard Mendelson for local wineries and growers. Its boundaries were drawn to fill the gap between Oakville to the north, Stags Leap District to the east and the other neighbouring AVAs. George Calvert Yount, who founded the town, planted its first vineyard around 1836. The AVA covers about 8,260 acres, with some 4,000 planted on gravelly silt loams and alluvial clays. It is best known for very tannic, long-ageing Cabernet Sauvignon.
