About Dry Creek Valley
Dry Creek Valley is a Sonoma County AVA north-west of Healdsburg, established in August 1983. Its name comes from Dry Creek, which feeds the Russian River. The valley is about 16 miles long and two wide, with alluvial loam on its floor and rocky soils in the surrounding uplands. Only the southern end, near Healdsburg, is reached by much fog. Immigrant families such as the Pedrocellis and Seghesios founded its wine industry. Dry Creek Vineyard, founded in 1972, was the first new winery after Prohibition, followed by Preston and Quivira. About 9,300 acres are planted, and Rockpile is a sub-AVA.
