About Knights Valley
Knights Valley is one of Sonoma County's five original AVAs, established in October 1983. It is a valley about five miles long in the far east of the county, next to Napa, and has the warmest climate in Sonoma County. It was formerly called Mallocomes Valley and takes its current name from a settler named Knight, who grew wine grapes there from about 1874 and shipped them to Napa wineries. Some 30 growers farm about 2,000 acres, mostly to Bordeaux varieties. Beringer helped pioneer the AVA.
