About Beaulieu Vineyard
Georges de Latour and his wife Fernande founded Beaulieu Vineyard near Rutherford in 1900. The name comes from the French for 'beautiful place'. During Prohibition the winery stayed open by supplying sacramental wine, and it grew sharply. After repeal it hired André Tchelistcheff, whose work on cold fermentation and frost protection raised quality. Tchelistcheff also mentored winemakers such as Mike Grgich and Joe Heitz. In the 1950s and 1960s BV counted among Napa's 'big four'. Heublein bought it in 1969; it later passed through Grand Metropolitan and Diageo, which sold it to Treasury Wine Estates in 2016. The flagship is the Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet.
