About Carter

Carter Cellars, Mark Carter's Calistoga-made label, bottles small quantities of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, mostly single-vineyard wines from Beckstoffer sites. Beckstoffer To Kalon in Oakville supplies The O.G., massively structured and from the original block; The Grand Daddy, from older vines of clone 4; the rich Three Kings; The F.RED, from former Schrader blocks; and The G.T.O., from the best barrels. Las Piedras in St. Helena yields La BAM (black currant, graphite), the muscular La Verdad and Los Compadres; Missouri Hopper and Bourn add further bottlings. Winemaker Russell Bevan sorts optically, presses gently and ages the wines 18–20 months in new French oak with minimal sulphur and racking.
