About Dana Estates

Dana Estates occupies a Rutherford Bench property whose stone winery was built in 1883 by German immigrant viticulturist H.W. Helms and closed during Prohibition. John and Diane Livingston bought the site in 1976 and made wine from 1984 as Livingston-Moffett, though never in the old building, until a warehouse fire destroyed their stock. In 2005 South Korean businessman Hi Sang Lee bought the property, and architect Howard Backen redesigned the winery around its original walls. Philippe Melka has consulted since the first vintage. The estate makes single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Helms, Hershey on Howell Mountain, Lotus and Crystal Springs, about sixty planted acres.
