About Domaine de Montille
The de Montille family estate in Volnay dates from the 1730s and took its present name after an 1863 marriage. It reached some thirty hectares in the nineteenth century, but phylloxera and sales left only about 2.5 hectares by the end of the Second World War. Hubert de Montille took over in 1947 at seventeen, later adding parcels alongside a legal career. His son Étienne joined in 1983, ran the winemaking from 1990, converted to organic farming in 1995 and succeeded his father in the early 2000s. Purchases in the Côte de Nuits and the 2012 acquisition of Château de Puligny-Montrachet restored the domaine to about 35 hectares.
