About Domaine Marquis d'Angerville
The Clos des Ducs in Volnay once belonged to the Dukes of Burgundy, and it entered the d'Angerville family line in 1804 when Baron du Mesnil bought the estate. In 1888 his childless son Eugène left it to his nephew Sem, Marquis d'Angerville, who replanted the vineyards with Pinot Noir after phylloxera, fought fraudulent négociants, bottled his own wine and helped found the INAO. With Henri Gouges he drafted the hierarchy of Burgundy crus in 1935. His son Jacques ran the domaine from 1950 until his death in 2003, and grandson Guillaume then took over, converting to biodynamics from 2005 and founding Domaine du Pélican in the Jura in 2012.
