About Joseph Drouhin
Maison Joseph Drouhin was founded in Beaune in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, who took over an established wine business at 22 and combined the roles of négociant, producer and vineyard owner; its cellars sit on Roman and medieval foundations beneath the town. The family bought Beaune's Clos des Mouches premier cru in the 19th century, and its 1973 white placed fifth at the Judgment of Paris. Robert Drouhin ran the house from 1957 to 2003 and, after a 1959 Drouhin beat Oregon's Eyrie Vineyards in a Paris tasting, built Domaine Drouhin Oregon in the Dundee Hills in 1988. His four children now run both, with organic farming certified from 2009.
