About Pride Mountain
Pride Mountain Vineyards occupies Summit Ranch, a mountaintop property first deeded in 1872. Edward Hirschler planted grapes there from 1885 and built a stone winery called Summit Wines in 1890, but Prohibition halted production and the building later burned. The Gamble family replanted vines in the 1950s, and in December 1989 Jim and Carolyn Pride bought the ranch and began restoring it. Their first wines, from the 1991 vintage, were made at Rombauer; Bob Foley became winemaker in 1992 and the first Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon followed in 1994. An on-site winery and caves came in 1997–99. Jim's children Steve and Suzanne bought the business in 2004.
