About Promontory

Promontory is a Harlan family estate on Oakville's south-western ridge, just south of Harlan Estate. Bill Harlan first saw the remote site while hiking in the early 1980s, and the family acquired it in 2008. Will Harlan has run it since 2015, with David Cilli as winemaker. Of roughly 840 acres, less than a tenth is vineyard, on steep slopes where volcanic, sedimentary and metamorphic soils meet. The family describes its Cabernet-based wine as more rustic and tannic than Harlan Estate. It is aged in large Austrian oak casks and released about five and a half years after harvest. The first vintage was 2009.
