About Realm Cellars

Realm Cellars began in 2002 as a winery without vineyards. Co-founders Juan Mercado and investment banker Wendell Laidley bought fruit from top Napa sites, and founding winemaker Mike Hirby made the first wines at Sherwin Family Winery. Scott Becker took over as managing partner in 2012, and Bordeaux-born Benoit Touquette, whose first Realm vintage was 2011, became his co-owner. The company then turned into a landowner: it bought the Hartwell winery and vineyard in the Stags Leap District at the end of 2015, which became Moonracer Estate, and in 2022 added Nine Suns and the Houyi vineyard on Pritchard Hill. The Bard, a Cabernet-led blend, is its flagship red.
