About Robert Mondavi Winery

Robert Mondavi, son of Italian immigrants raised in Lodi, had worked for decades at his family's Charles Krug winery before leaving in 1965. The next year, at 52, he founded his own winery in Oakville with partners Ivan Schoch and Fred Holmes, in a mission-style building designed by Cliff May. In 1966 he introduced Fumé Blanc, a Sauvignon Blanc style, and in 1971 released the winery's first reserve Cabernet. The estate owns the largest share of H.W. Crabb's historic To Kalon vineyard, with nearly 450 acres of vines, certified organic since 2023. Mondavi also co-founded Auction Napa Valley in 1981. Constellation Brands bought the winery in 2004.
