About Scarecrow

Scarecrow, Bret Lopez's label from the J.J. Cohn Estate in Rutherford, is built on the 'Old Men': about two acres of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1945 on St. George rootstock, which survived the phylloxera that later destroyed AxR1-grafted vines across Northern California. These vines are the backbone of the flagship Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon; Robert Parker described the 100% Cabernet 2013 as dense and full-bodied, with cassis, blackberry liqueur and earthy notes. M. Étain, first bottled in 2008 from juice left out of Scarecrow, blends estate Cabernet with Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot in a more Bordeaux-style, layered and bright way. Toto's Opium Dream is a single-barrel wine; the 2016 came solely from the Old Men.
