About Schrader

Schrader Cellars grew out of Fred Schrader's encounter with the 1988 Napa Valley Wine Auction. A former antiques dealer, he first made Cabernet Sauvignon with his then-wife Ann Colgin before going his own way. In 2000 a barrel sample from Beckstoffer's To Kalon vineyard in Oakville convinced him to secure fruit there, and the same year he hired Thomas Rivers Brown, then little known for Cabernet, as winemaker. Schrader owns no land, instead buying from To Kalon, Georges III, Dr. Crane and Las Piedras, and bottles several Cabernets, including the Old Sparky barrel selection. Constellation Brands bought the business in 2017, keeping Schrader and Brown in charge.
