About Antinori
The Antinori family of Florence dates its wine business to 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the city's guild of winemakers; the family bought the Palazzo Antinori in 1506 and later became marquises. In 1900 Piero Antinori bought vineyards in Chianti Classico, including Tignanello. His son Niccolò experimented with Bordeaux varieties from the 1920s, and grandson Piero, in charge from 1966, launched Tignanello in 1974 with the 1971 vintage, a barrique-aged red outside the Chianti rules that helped spark the Super Tuscan movement; Cabernet-led Solaia followed in 1978. Expansion took in Badia a Passignano and, by 2023, full ownership of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars.
